Do not exceed luggage rack weight capacity. Too much weight can cause loss of control, which could result in death or serious injury. (00373a) INSTALLATION Passenger Upright 1. Unscrew the captive screw fastening the seat rear bracket to the fender. 2. Remove the rubber plugs from the three holes in the rear fender where the passenger upright installs. 3. See Figure 2. Fasten the studplate (2) to the fender (A) with the backing plate (3) and three flange locknuts (4). 4. See Figure 1. Fasten the passenger upright (3) to the studplate (1) with three flange locknuts (2). 5. Insert the seat front bracket into the frame, then fasten the seat rear bracket to the fender. NOTE The seat must be temporarily bowed up in the center to fit the seat rear bracket through the slot in the passenger upright. 6. Kit 51144-02 only. See Figure 2. Carefully clean the lower hole (B) on the passenger upright (1) with isopropyl alcohol to remove any grease or dirt. Remove backing from adhesive emblem (5) and press the emblem firmly in to place. After installing seat, pull upward on seat to be sure it is locked in position. While riding, a loose seat can shift causing loss of control, which could result in death or serious injury. This kit fits all 1999 through 2005 Electra Glide model motorcycles with passenger handrail. Kit Contents See Figure 1 for a list of the kit contents. No Service Parts are available for this kit. INSTALLATION NOTE The passenger handrail grips are side-specific. Install the grips so that the Bar-and-Shield logo is oriented properly. 1. See Figure 1. Obtain a rubber grip insert (4) from the kit. 2. Open up the rubber insert along the horizontal split (A), and fit it over the forward curve of the handrail. Ensure that the insert is positioned to fit the curve properly, with no kinks or gaps. 3. Obtain an inner grip (1), the correct-side outer grip (2 or 3), and six screws (5) from the kit. 4. Position the inner and outer grips over the insert, pressing them firmly together and lining up the holes. 5. Insert a screw through one of the holes in the inner grip, and carefully thread part way into the mating hole in the outer grip. Repeat for the remaining five screws. 6. Use the hex socket wrench (6) provided to tighten all six screws securely. 7. Repeat Steps 1 through 6 for the opposite side

INSTALLATION If replacing an insert or inserts on a vehicle currently equipped with Swept Wing Passenger Footboards: Existing Footboard Insert Removal NOTE Carefully remove the currently installed footboard insert to avoid damage to chrome surfaces. 1. See Figure 1. Fold the passenger footboard (1) into the UP position. 2. Loosen, but do not remove the footboard insert setscrew (2). 3. With the footboard folded DOWN, carefully raise an outside corner of the existing insert with a suitable flat-bladed tool, taking care to avoid damaging the chrome footboard pan. 4. Continue around the insert, using a second tool if necessary to pry the existing insert (3) from the footboard pan. 5. If replacing both inserts, repeat for the opposite footboard. Swept Wing Passenger Footboard Installation 1. If installing inserts on a vehicle NOT currently equipped with Swept Wing Passenger Footboards: •Remove currently installed passenger footboards (if so equipped) per the instructions included with the Swept Wing Passenger Footboard Kit. •Remove currently installed passenger footpegs (if so equipped) by removing the socket screw with lockwasher retaining the footpeg support bracket to the rear fork (swingarm) bracket. 2. Follow the instructions in the Swept Wing Passenger Footboard Kit to install the passenger footboards. Footboard Insert Installation 3. ALL applications: Center the two footboard pivot pins. 4. Use soapy water to moisten the rubber dowel pins and pivot pin slots on the bottom of the new footboard insert. 5. Place the insert into position with the rubber dowel pins mating the holes in the footboard pan. Firmly press the insert into the footboard until the dowel pins pop into place. 6. Fold the passenger floorboard UP and tighten the setscrew to secure the insert. 7. Repeat Steps 3 through 6 for the opposite footboard. NOTE Avoid the contact of chrome surfaces with abrasive materials (stones, sand, etc.) as damage will result

Passenger Footpeg Components (FLHX) INSTALLATION NOTES • If necessary, remove any paint from counterbore holes of footboard brackets to ease the installation of the pivot pins. • On 2010 and Later Models: The installation height can be adjusted to one of three positions. To install footboards in a new position, remove plastic plugs from holes in rear swingarm bracket as necessary. • On 2009 and Earlier Models: The lowest of the four holes on the frame is not threaded and cannot be used to mount the footboards. 1. See Figure 2. Insert shoulder bolt (9) or (10) through slot in footboard bracket (1). a. 2010 and Later Models: Thread the 5/16 inch shoulder bolt (9) into the lowest hole in the rear swingarm bracket of the frame. b. 2009 and Earlier Models: Thread the 3/8 inch shoulder bolt (10) into the second lowest hole in the rear swingarm bracket of the frame. Tighten the bolts to 48-72 in-lbs (5-8 Nm.) . 2. At the desired height, install the upper screw (2) and lockwasher (3) through footboard bracket (1). Tighten screw to 36-42 ft-lb (49-56 Nm) . 3. Install spring (4) into retaining hole in footboard bracket. Set the ball (5) on top of spring. 4. Position the detent in the bottom of the footboard pan (8 or 12) over ball in footboard bracket. Be sure not to unseat the ball. Press down on footboard pan so the holes of the footboard pan and footboard bracket align. 5. Insert pivot pins (7) through two mounting holes on footboard bracket and into footboard pan. 6. Align footboard insert (6 or 11) in footboard pan. Press insert firmly until the footboard pan tabs are firmly seated in the footboard insert. 7. Fold footboard up and install set screw (13) to secure footboard pad. 8. Pivot footboard assembly up and down to verify proper operation. 9. Repeat all steps for opposite side

REMOVAL 1. See Figure 1. Remove existing passenger footpegs and mounting hardware. 2. Remove chrome swingarm pivot covers, if equipped. 3. Do not remove tool boxes, if equipped. INSTALLATION NOTES To prevent damage to chrome surfaces, avoid contact with abrasive materials (stones, sand, etc.). Some paint removal from counterbore holes of footboard brackets may be necessary to ease the installation of the pivot pins. Install Left Footboard Mount and Bracket 1. See Figure 2. Position left footboard mount (1) and insert screw (2) through mount and into footpeg mounting hole. 2. Position semi-circular cutout in mount extending from side of mount around nut of swingarm pivot bolt. Tighten screw (2) to 35-45 ft-lbs (47-61 Nm). 3. Position left footboard bracket (3) on mounting stud so that bolt hole aligns with machined groove in stud. 4. Insert screw (4) through left side in split hub of footboard bracket. Thread into tapped hole (right side) of split hub. Tighten to 10 ft-lbs (13.6 Nm). Install Right Footboard Bracket 1. See Figure 2. Position right footboard bracket (5) onto muffler support bracket. 2. Secure footboard bracket with screw (6). Tighten to 35-45 ft-lbs (47-61 Nm). Install Left and Right Footboards NOTE The footboards are side specific. Install footboards with Bar and Shield logo toward the front. 1. See Figure 2. Place footboard pad (7, 8) on footboard bottom (9, 10) and thread the pivot pins (11, 12). 2. Tighten pivot pins to 60-68 in-lbs (6.8-9.0 Nm). 3. Place spring (13) into retaining hole in footboard bracket (3, 5). Rest Delrin® ball (14) on top of spring. 4. Position footboard bottom (9, 10) onto footboard bracket in the down position while being careful not to unseat the ball. 5. Tighten pivot pins to 12-15 ft-lbs (16.3-20 Nm). 6. Press down on footboard assembly so holes align. 7. Insert mounting pins (15) in footboard bottom (9, 10) into corresponding holes in footboard pad (7, 8).

REMOVAL Remove Pillion and Rear Fender NOTE If possible, lift the rear of the motorcycle up so the rear wheel drops to the bottom of shock travel. This will help provide clearance between the rear tire and fender when installing the mounting brackets. 1. Open the rider seat. 2. See Figure 1. Remove rider seat post (1), nut (2), and washer (3) from passenger pillion. Slide grabstrap (4) forward off pillion. Save mounting hardware for kit installation. 3. Push passenger pillion forward to release slot on bottom of pillion from post on fender tongue. 4. See Figure 2. Lift pillion up to remove lanyard (1) from hole in center of passenger pillion (2). Then lift pillion away from motorcycle. 5. Disconnect turn signal and tail light electrical connections from back of rear electrical caddy. Note position for later installation. 6. See Figure 3. Unsnap rear electrical caddy (1) from rear inner fender. 7. Remove and save two fender support bolts (2), washers (3), and grabstrap (4) from rear fender. 1 2 3 4 is03548 1. Rider seat post 2. Nut 3. See Figure 4. Install leave-on bracket (1) to outside surface of inner fender using two button head screws (2) and nuts (3). Tighten screws to 48 Nm (35 ft-lbs). Repeat for opposite side. 2. See Figure 5. Install release/attach weldment (1) to leave- on brackets (2) using two washers (3) and socket head cap screws (4). Tighten screws to 25 Nm (18 ft-lbs). Repeat for opposite side.

Removal of Stock Seat 1. Remove screw (6) to detach rear seat mounting bracket (9) from fender. 1996 models will have a nylon washer under the bracket that should also be saved for installation of new seat. 2. Slide seat rearward to unhook front of seat from frame, then pull seat forward out of passenger strap. 3. Remove two capscrews (10) that attach seat mounting bracket to bottom of stock seat. Install original seat mounting bracket to bottom of new solo saddle with original capscrews. Tighten capscrews securely. 4. Remove nut (7) and washer (8) that hold passenger strap (11) in place and remove strap. Installation of Kit Seat This seat is for solo driver use only. Do not attempt to carry a passenger with this solo seat installed. Use of a luggage rack, fender, or tail section as an additional seat may result in death or serious injury. NOTE When a solo seat is installed without a passenger seat, the passenger footpegs or footboards and the passenger grabstrap must be removed. For 1996 models: 1. Slide seat into position until front seat tab engages frame, then place original nylon washer under hole in rear seat mounting bracket and secure bracket to fender with screw (6). NOTE For 1997 models, a retention nut and washer must be installed into the fender hole, covered with a plastic cap, where the rear seat bracket will be attached. A cable strap is included to aid in this installation. For 1997 models: 1. Remove plastic cap from hole in fender where the rear seat bracket will be attached. 2. Place retention nut (3) over cable strap (2) so wide end of nut rests on eye of cable strap. Thread cable strap up under fender and through fender hole. Pull up on cable strap to hold nut snug against underside of fender. 3. With rib on retention nut seated into notch in fender hole, slide retention washer (4) into place from the rear. This will lock the retention nut in place. 4. Slide seat into position until front seat tab engages frame, then secure rear seat bracket to fender with screw (6). Install chrome cap (5) in rear retention nut

REMOVAL NOTE Refer to owner’s manual or service manual for seat removal instructions for your model. 1. Remove right and left saddlebags according to the instructions in the service manual. Save saddlebag mounting brackets and hardware. 2. Remove passenger seat strap. Discard passenger seat strap. 3. Remove existing seat from vehicle. 4. See Figure 1. Remove and discard stock nuts (2) from studs (1) on rear fender (3). INSTALLATION Install Rider Seat 1. Push front seat on frame with mounting bracket at rear. 2. Firmly push front of seat downward and rearward until frame tongue engages slot in seat. 3. Push seat forward until studs are centered in slots of mounting bracket. 4. See Figure 4. Install two nuts (4) on studs to secure rear seat mounting bracket to rear fender. Alternately tighten nuts to 60-96 in-lbs (6.8-10.9 Nm). 5. If installing a new passenger seat, refer to the instructions included with the kit. After installing seat, pull upward on seat to be sure it is locked in position. While riding, a loose seat can shift causing loss of control, which could result in death or serious injury. (00070b) 6. If installing passenger seat, install passenger seat strap following the instructions in the service manual. 7. 1. Remove wiring harness dart clips. 2. Disconnect clutch switch connector. 3. Remove 2screwsforclutch lever bracket clamp, remove clutch lever bracket from handlebar. 4. Remove screws for left handlebar switch assembly. Disconnect fast idle cable from lever. Remove switch assembly. 5. Grasp left grip end firmly. While twisting grip end back&forth, pull grip end off and discard. 6. Remove left grip by insertingathin screwdriver between the grip and handlebar end. Spray as mall amount of water/soap solution into the area between the grip and handlebar end. Aggressively twist the grip back-and-forth while simultaneously pulling the grip off. 1. Locate accessory handlebar. 2. Clean inside of throttle grip assembly and throttle cable flange grooves. Ill. 1. 3. Clean throttle grip area. Ill. 1. 4. Slide throttle assembly onto right handlebar end (cableshavenot been removed and should still be attached to the throttle tube). 5. Position the handlebar over the top of the triple clamp and reinstall using bolts removed instep 10. of handlebar removal. Torque to 30 ft. lbs. 6. Install right handlebar switch housing onto handlebar. NOTE: Make sure that locating pin of switch assembly aligns with hole in handlebars. 7. Install right handlebar switch housing screws, make sure locating pin properly aligns with hole in handlebar. Tighten screws to specified torque. 8. Install master cylinder and clamp, install screws. 9. Torque screws to specification. 10. Connect front brake switch wiring harness. 11. Install fast idle cable onto fast idle lever. 12. Clean inside of left grip and handlebar grip surfaces

INSTALLATION 1. See Figure 1. Install the luggage rack following the instructions in the kit. 2. Insert the ends of the upright (2) into the pillion (3) (purchased separately) and align the holes in the upright with the holes in the pillion. 3. See Figure 2. Apply LOCTITE 243 to screws (2) and install with washers. Tighten screws to 84-108 in-lbs (9.5-12.2 Nm) . 4.
