Step 16: Use the cup remover tool included with the kit to remove both plastic cups on the original shifter. To do so, place the cup remover tool on top of the open jaws of a vice, the jaws should be approximately 1” apart. Hang the shifter from the tool as shown, be sure the shifter is inserted completely into the slot in the tool. Insert a punch into the center hole through the plastic cup and tap firmly with a hammer to separate the original shifter from cup. B. Removal of Stock Intake Manifold (figure 1)
1. Disconnect the battery ground cable.
2. With tape or a permanent marker, mark the forward edge of the power steering and the air conditioning compressor drive belts (figure 2). This will ensure that the belts will be returned to their original positions and that they will rotate in the same direction. If you reverse the direction of rotation, it may cause the belts to fray.

1) It is a good idea to use Blue Loc-tite on all bolts you are about to remove and replace. 2) This kit has extremely close tolerances and in order for all the parts to clear the triple clamp and gas tank, you will probably have to loosen and align most of the associated bolts. We have tried very hard to make this as compact as possible but we know the factory varies quite a bit from bike to bike. Be patient, the results are worth it. 3) Remove the large 14mm Allen nut and washer that holds your triple clamp on. You will not re-use either part. 4) Install the new “Triple clamp damper mount” Part # 22-2919-00 into the recess area where the stock, Allen-head bolt was sitting. There is a machined recess or washer on the bottom of our mount to match the recess on your triple clamp. The 2 knubs that hang downward, should match the rear contour of your triple clamp precisely. Use loc-tite and retighten the 14mm Allen nut, without any washer, to your factory specs, usually a minimum of 35 ft lbs. and a maximum of 85 ft.lbs. 5) Grease the tower pin and drop it in the tower pin hole portion of the frame bracket. The tower pin is designed to “float” and requires no retaining devices. Keep the tower pin lightly greased! 6) Remove both front fuel-tank retaining bolts and washers. You will use the longer bolts provided in our kit. 7) Install the frame bracket (part #22-8636-00) that mounts to your front (2) tank bolts holes. Make sure it does not make contact with the triple clamp. We’ve machined a recess on one side of this bracket to allow for extra clearance (see photo below). The casting ridge on the back of your triple clamp can vary from bike to bike, which might require some slight filing of that ridged seam to avoid contact with our frame bracket. 8) Now check to be sure the tower pin is not abrazing the tank. The tank mounts are adjustable, try to position the tank so nothing is touching. In some rare cases you might have to elongate the rear tank mounting brackets to allow clearance at the front. Use Loc-tite on the longer Allen bolts supplied and tighten the frame bracket 9) Install the stabilizer using the (2) 6×20 Allens with the slot in the link arm matching the tower pin. 10) Since the tank is rubber mounted, you want to be sure it won’t push forward and rub the frame bracket. After riding the first time, be sure the tank has not shoved forward by your body making contact with it. Remember, under heavy braking your entire body weight is pushing the tank forward. Until you have verified sufficient clearance between the tank and the tower pin, it might be smart to put something between the tank and tower pin to protect the tank. 11) Read your damper manual for initial settings on the controls. The damper is infinitely adjustable and totally up to the user to find their preference. Start with softer (counter clockwise) settings. Normally where we set the unit, at 8 clicks out on the base valve, is a good starting point.

1. Place motorcycle securely on stand or blocks so the rear wheel is slightly off the ground. 2. Per instructions in a authorized shop manual, remove your old shocks. Note location of the mounting hard- ware. 3. Before reinstalling a Drag Specialties adjustable ride height shock, spin the non-flanged nut all the way onto the stud mount, followed by a bushing-cup, bushing, and sleeve. Then install shocks as you would a stock unit, following an authorized shop manual. With the non-flanged nut spun all the way onto the stud, the stock ride height is achieved. Once you have installed the other bushing, bushing-cup, and flanged nut you can now install the safety E-clip. This E-clip is snapped into the groove near the end of the stud mount where the threads stop. This is to serve as a reference point ONLY – when the flanged-nut reaches it you have lowered your ride height the maximum 2 inches. DO NOT torque the flange-nut against the E- clip (see figure 1). 4. Tighten all shock mounting bolts to the proper torque specifications (see shop manual for specs). 5. Drag Specialties shocks have adjustable pre-load to compensate for varying weights. A Harley Davidson pre-load adjustment wrench is necessary to adjust the pre-load setting. Progressive Suspension, Inc. wrenches are available as Part # SW-784 from most Dealers and Accessory Stores and the Harley Davidson wrench is available as part #94455-89 from any Harley Davidson Dealer. Spring preload is set by us to the lightest setting. To increase preload for heavier riders/loads/passengers, loosen locknut with the inside portion of the supplied wrench or a 1 1/ 16 ” wrench and back it off several turns. You will use the longer bolts provided in our kit. 4) Install the frame bracket (part #22-6036-03) that mounts to your front (2) tank bolts holes. The frame bracket sits on top of the stock tank spacers. The frame bracket is offset. This means it fits correctly only one way, with the offset toward the triple clamp, part numbers facing forward, (see photo below). Due to the tight clearances on this model you’ll want to be sure the frame bracket does not make contact with the tank itself. It’s easier to start the tank bolts if you lift up on the tank slightly, while starting the new bolts into their threaded hole. Tighten the new tank bolts to 6 ft lbs. and use Loc-tite. 5) Remove the large 14mm Allen nut and washer that holds your triple clamp on. You will not re-use either one. 6) Install the new “Triple clamp damper mount” Part # 22-2925-00 into the recess area where the stock Allen head bolt was sitting. There is a machined recess or built-in-washer on the bottom of our mount to match the recess on your triple clamp. The 2 nubs that hang down, should match the rear contour of your triple clamp precisely. Use loc-tite and retighten the new 14mm Allen nut provided to your factory torque specs, usually a minimum of 35 ft lbs. and maximum of 85 ft. lbs. Do not use the stock washer that was under the original 14mm nut. 7) Grease the tower pin and drop it in the tower pin hole portion of the frame bracket. The tower pin is designed to “float” and requires no retaining devices. Keep the tower pin lightly greased! It should not touch the gas tank on the bottom side. 8) Install the stabilizer using the (2) 6×20 Allens with the slot in the link arm matching the tower pin. 9) Since the tank is rubber mounted at the rear, you want to be sure it won’t push forward and rub the frame bracket. After riding the first time, be sure the tank has not shoved forward by your body making contact with it. Remember, under heavy braking your entire body weight is pushing the tank forward. Until you have verified sufficient clearance between the tank and the tower pin, it might be smart to put something between the tank and tower pin to protect the tank. 10) Read your damper manual for initial settings on the controls. STOCK EXHAUST SYSTEM REMOVAL 1. Remove right side frame cover. 2. If motorcycle is oxygen sensor equipped, remove passenger seat. Remove two bolts securing operator seat and set seat aside. Locate and unplug oxygen sensor connector from wiring harness (Figure 1).(Note wire routing for reassembly). 3. Remove right side floorboard assembly held in place by two bolts (Figure 2). 4. Remove exhaust port flange nuts. 5. Remove flange bolts securing rear muffler to exhaust system mounting bracket. 6. Remove complete exhaust system. Start by removing front head pipe from exhaust port (assistance may be required). 7. Check condition of stock exhaust gaskets. Replace if damaged or worn. 8. Remove plastic hose clamp securing rear brake hose to swingarm.Save for re-use. 9. Remove brake hose banjo bolt from rear caliper. 10. Slide hose out of loops in swingarm. 11. Remove three bolts holding stock exhaust mounting bracket and slide bracket off end of brake hose. 12. Slide brake hose through loop on new bracket (stamped 357-P) and install to the original mounting bracket location, using three 8mm x 16mm Allen bolts (supplied) (Figure 3). 13. Check condition of sealing washers on banjo bolt and replace if damaged or worn. 14. Slide brake hose through loops on swingarm and reconnect brake hose to caliper. 15. Reinstall plastic clip onto swingarm. 16. Brake system must be bled or brake will not operate correctly.

1 Remove the seat. 2 Lift up the front of the fuel tank. 3 Disconnect the wiring harness from the injector on the left hand side of the bike by pushing up (squeeze) on the spring clips from the injector connector (Fig. A). Plug one of the leads from the PCIII in line of the connectors you just unplugged. 4 Repeat step 3 for the right hand side (Fig. B). 5 Locate the throttle position sensor on the trottle bodies. Locate the yellow wire with the brown tracer coming from the sensor. Connect the wire tap to this wire. Plug the grey wire from the PCIII into this connector (Fig. C). It is recommended to seal this connector with dialectric grease or silicone. 1 Remove the seat. 2 Lift up the front of the fuel tank. 3 Disconnect the wiring harness from the injector on the left hand side of the bike by sqeez- ing the connector. 4 Connect one pair of the leads from the PCIII in-line of the stock harness and throttle body (Fig.A). 5 Repeat steps 3-4 for the right hand side (Fig.B). 6 Locate the throttle position sensor on the trottle bodies.
